Pulling from the vernacular style the Appalachian region, the exterior is a respectful presence amongst the abandoned farm structures in Heritage Park. Rather than rigid separation of interior spaces, a combination of finger walls and floor level changes define each space apart while allowing a continuous wide-open space.  This versatility is key in creating a space that is a community activity center and a welcome center for travelers.

 

Programatically, it offers a gallery that weaves through storage and office spaces while keeping a classroom and uni-sex toilet room separated  by the entrance space.

Placed into a patch of decidious trees, the structure’s wide open southern facade is protected from summer sun while open to the winter sun’s waves for heat.
