Metro Stage Theatre + Arts Center

Rebuilding MetroStage on its existing site, the new structure creates a new hub of the local theatre community. At its core is a new iconic theatre-in-the-round, wrapped by its support facilities. The administrative, educational, and backstage facilities are interconnected around the theatre with seven artist residences by its public piazza, promoting community events and activities founded in the arts.

This unique concept bridges the urban environment across the street with the open landscape to the northeast through its use of landscaping and leveling.

This project was completed during my time at the Washington Alexandria Architecture Center

The public access takes form from Alexandria's alleyways, which form crucial access paths throughout the city.  In this case the alley wraps itself around the theatre presenting you with a view of the Potomac River and waterfront park.
